Forest Pro 5.0.3b with Corona render 1.3 Edge mode doesn't work
« on: January 08, 2016, 01:44:17 PM »
Hi

I've tried Forest Pro 5.0.3b version with Corona render 1.3, 3DSMax 2014 and have to say that Boundary Checking with Edge mode doesn't work. It works the same way as with Point mode.
Before I used  Forest Pro 5.0.2b for some time and Edge mode worked there fine and that was really great - thanks for this option!

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I've just tested here and it appears to be working OK. Can I just check that both a Forest Edge map is applied to the Corona material's Opacity color map slot, and that Areas > Boundary Checking > Edge is active? You could read more about Forest Edge map here. If it still doesn't work please let me know and we'll dig deeper!

Many thanks,

Paul

I tried it with built-in libraries and I didn't check maps. Now I installed 5.0.2b version to work with it, but I'll try 5.0.3b again later today

Ok, I checked it now :)
This is how it looks
with built-in grass library -1
with custom grass patch with no ForestEdge map - 2
with custom grass patch with plugged ForestEdge map - 3

Thanks for the examples, we've been able to identify the problem and it's added to our fix-list. It seems there's been a change to the materials in Corona, the presets are working because they load in legacy mode using the old shader model.

As a workaround for now you can get this to work in Forest Pack 5.0.3b by adding any map the the Forest Edge Opacity slot. An Output map works well without affecting the material.

Many thanks!

Thanks for your reply!

Actually in version 5.0.2b there no need to add anything to ForestEdge map - picture forest_5.0.2b_edge-1 demonstrates it. It's been rendered with 5.0.2b with the same version of Corona. Edge mode works here well with legacy and newer version of Corona's shaders.

But you are right about Output map in Forest_Edge map - it works with version 5.0.3b with latest Corona's shaders. Thanks for the tip!

BTW, Corona materials of Forest Pack's objects look now muuuch better than they were in Forest Pack 4! Thanks for that! And I'd like to suggest very useful topic on Corona Render Forum about shaders for vegetation made by Juraj Talcik . Maybe it could be useful for your team wile you develop corona shaders for Forest Pack presets.
