Rendernode install
« on: May 07, 2018, 03:59:08 AM »
Hi there,

I would like to install Forest Pro Beta silently on my rendernodes, ie. not with a GUI.

If I silently install then not all the files that are installed ie all the new textures et al.

I can't go through and GUI to install this across my farm, it will take ages, can you advise the approved way to do this?

You will need to use update manager in unattended mode. (option 3 currently does not yet work)

Update:
We have new guide how to share ForestPack assets in network drive:
https://forum.itoosoft.com/faq/installing-forestpack-6-assets-in-a-shared-network-path/

Please use it and I would like to get a feedback if everything works OK.

Thanks Rokas, so as I understand it you apply reg files to your user then when you open Forest in Max it requests to add those paths to your default set (via your 3dsmax.ini file). If that is the case then this wont work for our rendernodes as a user never opens Forest on rendernodes, nor will there be an attending user to click boxes in the GUI. I assume that most other users configure rendernodes similar.

As a fix for us I have installed the reg files on rendernode85 and then opened up Forest which has edited the 3dsmax.ini, I have then copied the 3dsmax.ini across my farm and everything works as I expect.

I saw someone that you intend to change this? maybe? If you intend to change the way that this is architected it will break things for us as we have now configured our studio in this way, I would suggest a re-architect of this design shouldn't be released as a point/minor release....

I expect workflow of install on render nodes will change for the better.
I want to remind that this is beta and subject to change.
Thank You for testing and giving us feedback this is very valuable to us.
