Hello guys,
i am reporting a problem with the latest iteration of Forest Pro 6.0.8b

Whenever i render with DR, i get:
- some nodes not picking up FP and thus rendering without it
- MAX crash whenever i either stop the render or the render finishes.

This doesnt happen when i render without DR.

I sent the minidump to Vlado from Chaosgroup and he said it crashes because of FP.
Therefore i am attaching the minidump here as well perhaps it will help you to find whats going on there.

Any idea where we can expect some further progress on the beta?
This bug basically prevents us from rendering our jobs in DR mode so there is something that could be done about it ASAP that would be really great and much appreciated! :)

Hi, it seems Forest was not updated correctly in the DR nodes, because it's version 6.0.6, not 6.0.8:



Please try to install it again, but be sure that VRaySpawner and Max are not running. If not, Max locks the plugin files and cannot be upgraded.

ufff thanks for the pointer!
i am not sure what hapened there.
all our instalations say it 6.0.8 but perhaps the spawner was running somewhere and it did not update

ok so we reinstalled all the comps and it still crashes at the end of DR session.

minidump wasnt even created this time.

Any ideas?

Is there any chance the installer would for some reason instal 6.0.6 instead of 6.0.8?

Removed the FP objects from the scene and it renders fine accross DR nodes.

Without the minidump we cannot know what is the problem, but if you want be sure the right version is installed, it can be done in this way:

- Select ForestVRay40.dll in the Max root folder, right click->Properties->Details. The version is shown here.
- Same for ForestVRay36.dll (although this is not used for V-Ray Next).
- To check the plugin, rename ForestPackPro.dlo to ForestPackPro.dll in the "plugins" folder and do the same. After checking, be sure to rename it back to ".dlo".

I just checked the installation in Max 2019, and everything seems correct (6.0.8 for all files)

Does it render normally in the workstation without using DR ?

yes on workstation without DR its ok.
and also with one node its ok but when i plug more nodes in it crashes.

tried again and again crash and no minidump.

I dont think its FP related this problem.Had the same issue as well.Turns out in order to use V-ray Next DR Render you have to run at least on job through the backburner (server) for the workstation you are going to use as a DR spawner.

Hey, we obviously have done this loads of times, DR works perfectly in scenes not containing FP.
Besides, i dont understand how linking in particular would be related to crashing Max.

Can You clarify some points.
It will always (any scene or only this one) crash Max2019 on stop/end only when ForestPack is used in the scene AND distributed rendering is on.

I can not reproduce a crash on Your scene.

yes, we have two scenes using FP that were made from scratch and both do this exact same thing.
During the rendering, some nodes leave buckets with FP scatter without as if the FP was not even installed at all.

Then, iether by stopping the render (VFB or render dialogue) or lettgin the render finish, it crashes wihtout any warning and it stopped even doing minidumps (in both scenes.

I wonder why in the 1st minidump there was version 6.0.6 on some/one node ....when we only installed 6.0.8

I had one case where i was rendering with one DR node setup and it went fine so it seems its still being produced by some nodes only
but i ve no idea how to track those down apart from trying one by one....which is doable, but what if all of them render well if i have only one node setup in DR :)

Clueless...any ideas for further debug steps on our end?

We dont use many other plugins just vray, FP, RC, floor generator and multitexture and Phoenix FD



Is there any way how you can see from the 1st minidump which node had problems with FP?
