Import Baseline ... not interactive?
« on: December 08, 2025, 02:44:50 pm »
Hi there,

When using import for a baseline (see attachement ivy_import), the ivy doesn't updated when moving the imported baseline ... so when the scene is attached as xref to another scene and moved, the ivy stays behind ...

Testcase:
  • create a helix spline (Helix001)
  • import is as baseline in an ivy.
  • move the helix object (see ivy_moved_baseline)
  • notice the ivy not moving with the splineobject (Helix001) choses at import

Am I overlooking something, am I trying to do something it wasn't designed for, or am I creating a usecase for Ivy Import Baseline that has not been taken into account?
or do I somehow need to convert the imported baseline to an actual paintline (which does update when moving the surface or the xref in another scene)

Hi,

I’m afraid this isn’t the intended use. This feature allows you to Import or Export the baseline as a spline, but it does not create any dynamic link to the spline object - it simply imports it into the ForestIvy object to avoid having to paint it manually. I hope this clarifies it.

Best regards,

Alright, but what's the intended use then, just an in scene path to grow Ivy?

Any change this idea can be picked up to 'convert' the imported spline into a painted line so it behaves the same (and can be extended with more paint and moves with the surface object?)

I tried working around it by linking the ivy to an object in order to get it to move, but that also doesn't work ... it's as if it uses an internal reference to the imported splines position/vectors etc with no way to access it after import.
