5.000.000.000.000 and VRayScatter

Hi all,

i'm new and i see the v3.0 upgrate! Wow... greate tool. But, i want to snhow you a little .ru company that have develop a "in house" plug. Very fast for create e random forse in 3 minuts.  I don't now, bit in Forset Pro there are a tool that change plane (mountain) the tree update in realtime? And a random texture... this tool is greate. In Forest pro 3.0 there is this tool?

Hi,

Yes, it seems a great tool but i've not found much information about it.  I see a problem that only work with VRay proxys, Forest 3 is more flexible using any type of object.

About modifying the surface at realtime, Forest has a checkbox to follow the animation of the surface if needed, but is disabled by default. Why ? because the plugin precalculates a cache of the terrain's geometry, allowing to use high poly mesh surfaces without a performance loss. I would like to test if VRayScatter can place trees in realtime over a surface of a million of faces, as our customers does with Forest.  ;)

In Forest, we don't use textures to define the distribution area because we think is more flexible to use area splines. Is not easy to adjust a bitmap over the area or modify the bitmap at realtime. A spline may be edited much more easily. The problem with splines was to adjust the density of trees near the edges of the area, but this issue is solved with the Area Fallof options of Forest 3.

Sorry, i didn't reply you question about random textures in my last post: Yes. Forest can apply random tint to the trees as well.

Hello. I'am active user of vrayScatter and would like to say that it is a greate tool. We can render billions of polygons without any restrictions, but... only for vray.

I would like to get same possibilities for mentalray, but vrayscatter doesnot supports it. I would like to know - Itoo planned to add mrProxy to feature list of forest?
If it possible - I will buy forest pro as soon it will be available to render at least maximum 100 thousand mrProxyes trees!
I can't get access to any forum at this community and dont take any idea - supports forest mental ray or not. why this forums are so restricted? Also I cant to try MentalRay proxyes in lite version - it doesn'to supports custom meshes!
Why so many restrictions?  I'am a future customer and cant get any info about this plugin!!! no trials no forums, no information! I am dissapointed and hope that Itoo give me some feedback

Forest Pro can use any object as custom object, including mrProxy and convert the trees to instances using "Forest Tools" plugin. This way, it can work with all types of proxies. We have succesfully tested it with VRay, Mental Ray and Maxwell Render. But as noted before, this must be done in two steps: 1. create Forest using billboards, 2. convert to instances (there is a small demostrative video on the website).

The problem with Mental Ray is that in our tests mrProxy didn't seem to work very well. We got some crashes trying to render scenes that were using large amounts of objects (one mrProxy by tree). I'm not sure what was the problem, however we tested it before Max2009 SP1, may be this issue was fixed yet. VRay and Maxwell were working fine instead... we will repeat the tests with mrProxy, i will post here the results soon.

About the private forums: well, initially the Forest Pro boards were designed as a place for our registered users to post questions, and get support. But you are right, now there are a lot of information that may be useful for all users, so i just opened them for public access. By now, on read only mode, because we like to differentiate the posts written by Pro users.

If you have any question or suggestion about the software or the website, please tell me.

Well, in mentalRay no problem to render 60.000 mrProxyes:
You must disable "Scanline" checkbox,
set BSP2 and set "Use placeholder objects"  ;)
Low memory and gigantic landscapes are welcome)

Itoo, I would like to give you some tips for ability render mrProxyes:
Would be nice, if forest simply copy (as instance)  in memory custom mrProxy object without copying it in scene - only before rendering. In this case we will have 1 forest object and 1 mrproxy tree in scene. As you know - very big problem in 3dsmax is saving thousand instances in scene - *.max file are very heavy in this case, so just simple pre-render copying can very help.

Thanks for the info !  I was already using "BSP2" and "placeholder objects" on my tests, but i didn't know that "Scanline" also must be disabled. Now large renders with mrProxies is working as intended.  ;D

I've attached a sample image from a scene that i just created. It uses trees of 1 million polygons, converted to mrProxy, scattered with Forest and converted to instances using Forest Tools.

We are working on this. Altough we have improved the creation of instances in 3.05b, our goal is to create proxies dinamically at render time. I will post here more information as the development continues...

I bought vrayscatter and under my vista 64 MAX Design 2010 64 it doesn't work.  I get no support either and I am very unhappy with it.  The Forest Lite does everything I need flawlessly.
