Switching away from Autodesk
« on: October 23, 2018, 02:21:49 PM »
Hi,

I'm considering - as probably many other users as well - switching from 3dsmax to other Program. As my current workflow is relying heavily on Railclone and also Forrestpack I was wondering, where i might find similiar tools to do those things. I'm not yet decided if it will Cinema4D, Rhino3D or Blender - all have their pro and cons. But within the next Years i guess its unavoidable to move away from Autodesk.

Hello,nakama

Crews from Itoo said that they are small companies with few crews to maintain their business. I am also finding some plugins which is similar to RC and FP.

I wonder do you have any interest on Sketchup, there is a plugin similar to Railclone called Profile Builder, which is fully parametric and aimed at BIM usage.

The pros is you can do everything in Sketchup which is really fast, the cons is there are no Array2s or any Arithmic expression which could be somehow limited, and you don't have box/point cloud display mode which could cause your viewport really laggy.

There are also Skatter for Sketchup which is similar to FP,you also have laubwerk tree which is quite handy.

       Hope my 2cent helps.
