Title: Height of plants on library thumbnails
Post by: Colin Hanford on May 29, 2012, 10:49:08 AM
Hi all,

I was wondering if it would be possible to add the original height for a tree, plant, grass, etc on the thumbnails for the HQ Plants ? I spend quiet a bit of time placing a tree, etc, then having to jump to a side on view to measure it, before I know the height.

I know I could manually do this myself by measuring the original max files and altering the thumbnails, but thought it would be useful for other users too so would this be an idea to develop for a future update to the HQ Plant catalogue ?

Or am I missing something :)

Cheers,
Colin

The library just do a merge of the tree object from the original .max file, that include dimension in real world units. We don't included a size parameter for 3D objects because the scale conversions it should be handled automatically by 3dsmax.

Try to check of you have set physical dimensions in your units setup. In any case to change the default sizes, you can open the library .max and scale the trees to your requisites.

Hi,

I was thinking more along the lines of a visual guide in the thumbnail. If on a project I'm asked to place an area of trees where the height of the trees was approximately 4m's (or whatever height), then while I was browsing my library I would have a quick guide of the initial height of the trees.

For example in the client specified a Beech tree, the HQ library has 5 different Beech trees so it would help if I knew the basic height of the trees in the first instance, to have a starting point.

I've quickly done 3 thumbnails to show what I mean. It means that if I'm looking for a 6m tree for example, it's easier to find.

We use some scripts to automatize the creation of the catalogs. We will take a look to it, perhaps we would add this information on the importing process.
