color edge with mat id's as detection routine?
« on: February 06, 2009, 02:53:18 PM »
hello itoo software!
first thank you VERY much for your free plugs!
the color edge plugin is very valuable but i have a feature request concerning the plugin.
i know its very bold to ask about a feature for FREE plugins but i try it..  ;D

it would be totally awesome, to get the plugin doing transitions on the border edges of polys that share one material id, so that materials can easily be blended by this shaderknot.
also if there were any possibiliy to use maps instead of colors in the blending colors would be freaking.

so request 1:
detection routine to be working with border edges of mat id's

request 2:
map support for color near edge.

in the end, the plugin would work like a mix map with vertexcolor in the mix amout, but it would be much more easy to handle. since you must not have to set vertexcolors in the mesh anymore, and you'd have more control about the fading!
and if there were map support in the colors, you could more easy use this map for masking.
what do you say?
thank you anyway and best regards,
sascha

Hi Sascha,

I think that replacing colors by maps would be not difficult, about using mat id's... well i'm not sure, i must see the source code.

Thanks for your suggestions, they will be very valuable for the next ColorEdge release. I know that the plugin needs many changes, however before we must complete other projects that are in development (Forest changes most of all).
