Title: Building fixtures with railclone?
Post by: JPJAPERS on January 23, 2018, 03:24:58 PM
Would it be plausible to build shelving like the attached image using railclone?
Ideally id like to feed it data on how many shelves, width of the shelves and height and depth of the unit and have it adjust accordingly placing the supports, struts and uprights at the right places. Ive never used railclone before but it seems incredibly powerful, much more so than the MCG.

Any ideas on if this is possible and above all practical?

Hi, we think it would be feasible in RailClone, although probably it requires some work.
We have a couple of tutorials with similar ideas, as Kitchen Cabinets (https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/kitchen-cabinets-with-railclone?back=page%3D3) and Parametric Shelving (https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/bookshelf?back=page%3D1%26search%3Dbook).

I've added it to our wishlist for future tutorials.

Hi!

We've mocked up a test scene here using simplified geometry and it would appear RailClone can create something similar to the image. Please take a look at this video to see if it fits your needs.

Many thanks,

Paul

Dude thats almost exactly what I need!
The ability to add and remove specific little addons are the only bits that I would need to add to that, for instance, the little bumper at the front and the ability to turn off the front support struts. Is there a way to do it do it could be extended to say multiple adjacent shelving units sharing a support strut and have each individual unit have a different number of shelves?
Are the models for each part 'definable' or are they dynamically generated?

Sorry for all the questions, Ive never used this before but it seems incredibly powerful and something i should look into for sure!
