rotated clipping area
« on: March 05, 2016, 10:34:51 PM »
Hi.

I've been using rc to put sheet metal cladding on walls by drawing a closed spline on one wall at the time and then use that spline as a clipping area. It works perfectly for walls that are perpendicular to one of the orthogonal views in max.  Fx, I Draw both the rc object, the segment and the spline in the front viewport (if the wall on the imported model is perpendicular to the front view camera) and everything works fine.

I can't figure out how to do this on walls that are not perpendicular to one of the orthogonal viewports. Do you have any suggestions on how to do that? I've attached an image to show a possible scenario when importing a model.

Hi, please try this:

1) Be sure the Spline's pivot is aligned with plane of the wall (Z perpendicular to the wall):

2) In RailClone, assign the spline and click "Realign".
3) Save the scene and reload.

That should align the array with the wall.

The last step is necessary because one of the clipping values is cached, and not updated correctly when axis changes. We'll fix that for the next update.
