A2S Clipping projection axis alignment?
« on: July 19, 2013, 07:43:10 AM »
I've read the reference guide but I can't work out how to get my clipped area to be projected horizontally.

You can see in the attachment that the wall segments are not being sliced from the shape Z axis.

Please, send us that object in separate scene (by e-mail if you like). I must check a few things.

Thanks,

Thanks for the file. The problem is that clipping area is projected on local coordinates of the RC object, but the walls don't follow the same orientation (they are rotated respect to the local axies).

Anyway, in this case it's difficult to get the result you want using clipping areas, because the object has multiple sides, and clipping works only with one axis at time. I suggest using standard Max tools, as booleans.

Hi

I had a think about this - is the Pivot point of the RC object fixed? I tried to rotate the pivot but it appears that the slice is aligned to world coordinates.

You are right, in this case the Pivot Point is not modifying the local axies... i must investigate on deep what it's happenning exactly (the way that Max handles pivots internally is a bit complicated).

I suggest this alternative procedure:

1) Rotate the entire object (not the pivot) until the pivot is aligned with the clipping area.
2) Click Display->Build to update the RC object.

I attach screenshots (as seen from the top view).

Thanks - I'll try that.
