Really long saves
« on: July 03, 2021, 02:36:01 PM »
Hi guys,
I'm using a curb from the builtin library and will test more but I think ever since I use segment IDs for lowering of the curb my saves gotten really long! I mean it's a big scene with about 30 houses and long curb goes up and down but shouldn't RC like save only a "generator" and not the mesh that it generated? Even though it's showing in the viewport. The preview is in boxes. I hope I'm making sense.
I also noticed that save files are not bigger than they were and they are actually pretty small like 80MB but it takes like 5 mins to save.

It may not be a Railclone problem.
Try some cleanup scripts like:

As Dragan indicated, it really can be not a RailClone problem. We could check it if You have attached Your max file or sent it to us.

Thanks guys. Tried PruneScene plugin but it didn't help. The scene save with everything in it takes 2:18 minutes. When I delete the RC curb it takes 25s. I just tried merging that object into an empty scene and now it saves for a bit less than 6 mins lol! Yes that's minutes. I'm sending a file. Please be patient for it may take a while to load too.

I also often see you guys sharing links for cool RC generators (or whatever they're called). Is there anywhere I can check the newer road/curb generators than the ones that come with RC?

Just noticed I used curve 200 steps (something I tested initially I guess) but also as I see it doesn't really affect the amount of details, it just makes it more smooth on corners. And yes, I can confirm now that when I used spline segment IDs 1 (so no curb lowering for cars) it saves pretty much instantly, but I after I change some segments to 2 save and scene behavior becomes terrible...almost unusable. So takes 6 mins to save a 10MB file.

Yes, that is what I noticed as well. "Drop" geometry segments are much denser in polygon counts so they do take longer to be deformed.

In this case I would set spline interpolations to max (100 ) and override it in RailClone with 1. While You are working in Max. Once You are ready to render change that to 0 to inherit smooth curves.

I see what you mean. Thanks for your assistance. The numbers I used were too high anyway. It's ok now when I use spline interpolation and RC override 0...so no override.
