Title: Bridge Railing
Post by: Insight Studio PL on April 22, 2022, 12:32:02 PM
I'm getting through Guide for Railclone and I'm on the beginning of "next steps with railclone" part.
There is "Rule 6 - Combine segments to create new geometry" and I have already made bridge railing from file chapter_2_compose. I get the idea of combining segments that is the essence of this part of the guide, but what if in that particular case I would like to make the sequence symmetrical? Now, large posts are not distributed evenly because of the sequence order. Is there any trick to make it symmetrical?

Hi,

Thanks for the question. You can do this by enabling Sync Offset in the Evenly settings.

When this is active each side of the spline will have the same number of Evenly segments. If it is inactive then each side is calculated independently based on its path's length.

I hope that helps,
Paul

Thanks for Your answer! I have never used that option so good to know how it works :)
However, when I make sharper curves on spline the distortion and differnce between parts length becomes unaccteptable. Another thing is that the whole Array still isn't symmetrical - when I had lengthed the spline, large posts occured again near the start segment.
Look at the attachment. Is there any fancy workaround to that issue?

Hi,

My guess is that the additional large posts are at the end of the spline rather than the beginning. The sequence operator is a simple counter so it's just progresses through the segments and stops at an arbitrary point based on the length of the spline. Another option might be to change the Evenly Mode to Count and export the value using a Numeric node. In that way, you could control the number of Evenly divisions and adjust it so that the start and end match.

As for deformation, you could turn off the Bend option for the posts, but you'd probably need to structure the graph a little differently, perhaps adding the top handrail to a separate generator so that it can continue to smoothly bend and follow the curve.

Best,
Paul

My guess is that the additional large posts [...] Ok, it is some workaround, but I would have to make separate rc objects for every spline and adjust count of posts in all of those objects. You must admit that it would be a bit unhandy. And after all, while having the same amount of posts on both sidfes of bridge we still have a problem with big difference between parts length.

As for deformation, you could turn off the Bend option for the posts, [...]Yes, You are right. Sorry, I don't know why I wrote about distortion. Mainly I wonder how to deal with that difference between parts length and having symmetrical sequence of posts.

The topic is just because of curiosity and if it is not possible to make in railclone then ok, I can live with it ;)
