Clipping Area issue
« on: May 12, 2015, 08:14:40 PM »
Hi guys,
I was wondering if there's a way to make the clipping area cuts along the local normal of the spline. I post a screenshot of the top view and the scene if you want don't understand what I mean.
Thanks.

Hi,

RailClone ignore thes splines pivot but uses it's own local axis to determine the direction of spline clipping so in this case you could rotate the RailClone object around its Z axis until it matches the orientation of the spline. You'll then probably need to reselect the path to update the geometry but the spline will now be clipping correctly.

Alternatively, since in this case you are removing the full height of the style, it may make more sense to draw a cliping spline in the top view and change the projection mode to Z. This will avoid the need to reorientate the RC object.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have further questions.

Many thanks,

Paul

Thanks Paul for the answer.
Actually, I'm clipping just a part of the style, as I did in the other bulding on the left.
So I guess there isn't any other option than rotating the railclone object. Am I right?
Thanks

Hi,

Yes, in this case you would need to rotate the RailClone object so that one of its sides is in line with the clipping spline. This shouldn't have any other affect on the way the style looks though. I've attached the file with that set-up.

Many thanks,

Paul

Thanks Paul,
I hope you will implement the clipping along the local normal in the future.
It would be really a pain doing the rotation trick to use different clipping splines to create windows for example.
As I'm waiting to see implemented the auto cap feature of the clipped geometry.
Thanks anyway.
