Differences in shading in Railclone bamboo pergola
« on: May 25, 2022, 10:49:40 AM »
Hi,
I would like to ask if someone has a tip how I could fix the difference in shading.
The Railclone setup is for the bamboo sticks fpr the pergola. Each pergola has its own linear 1s generator sharing the same segments (see attached image)

Thank you for your time!

Hi,

I can't seem to open your second image that shows the problem. Would you mind uploading it again?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi,

Do you have any info on this shading diffrence? Even if I reverse the 1s generator I get a difference in shade (upper left corner).
Thanks in advance.

It's very hard to tell from the picture what might be the issue. It looks as though there are coplanar polys. Is it possible that double geometry is being created in that area? If you can isolate the problem in a simplified scene file and send it to use we might be able to help further.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Giorgos,

Thanks for the file. It would appear to be related to the smoothing groups of the segments. That particular section has the pieces the other way up from the others, and I think the smoothing groups are causing the bottom of the source geometry to shade slightly differently from the top. I found that selecting all the bamboo source objects and adding a Smooth modifier set to smoothing group 1 fixed it.

I hope that helps,
Paul.
