cladding generator
« on: May 21, 2019, 12:36:47 AM »
I'd like to make a wall with thin vertical slats and decent amount of space between them.

1) When I play with the railclone editor, the railclone object just dissapears in the viewport though I can find it in the layer explorer. Why?

2) Oftentimes the preset just breaks... I undo and set it back to the default settings but the planks just don't show up anymore. This happens a lot when, for instance, I overshoot the bottom padding of a cladding generator. I set it to a number -oops too large, then bring it back down and the generated content seems no longer to correspond to the generator. Even updating with a new cladding style doesn't solve the issue.

3) Essentially I'm trying to create thin slats with a fair amount of space between them.  I'm using Cladding style #10.  I figure that Transforming the Y scale of the object all the while inching the bottom padding works, but its finicky and anytime I overshoot one or the other the generator just breaks. Is there a better way? This is fairly annoying as I'm playing to see what these features do and they don't act consistently. I get that there are break points, but it would be great to know where they are.

4) What is scale max and scale min% in the cladding generator?

5) What is stepped(use top padding)

6) What is the logic behind your up and down arrows, sometimes it shoots up a meter, sometimes by a smaller increment. Going down the same occurs.

Hi. I will try to answer Your questions.

1) When I play with the railclone editor, the railclone object just dissapears in the viewport though I can find it in the layer explorer. Why?
A: Please attach a scene when this happens again. I don't understand the situation. It has not happened to me yet.

A: Once You think RailClone misbehaves press "Build" button in Display Rollout and it should rebuild Style correctly.

A: Would it not work for You if You just adjusted top padding?

4) What is scale max and scale min% in the cladding generator?
A: You can choose how long and short Your cladding pieces can be.

5) What is stepped(use top padding)
A: It steps cladding forward if they are overlapping:

6) What is the logic behind your up and down arrows, sometimes it shoots up a meter, sometimes by a smaller increment. Going down the same occurs.
A: You mean arrows near numeric values? I want to remind that You can use modifier keys "Alt" and "Ctrl" to weaken or strengthen effect.

Thanks for all these questions. We see that tutorial for using this macro can be beneficial for You and other users. So we shall do it.

Thanks for going through this.

I didn't know about the build function so that helps.
I've been adjusting the bottom padding and the size of the elements. Seems to work.
I can't really attach the scene as it is too large. Will see if it replicates on a smaller scene.
