Title: Clipping Area wish
Post by: trimitek on March 27, 2015, 12:42:34 PM
Hi there,
It's probably too optimistic to ask, but I guess I'll ask anyway.
I'm making a building facade with A2S and a clipping area that looks like this:

The segments are simple:

It's probably not possible, but I wish I would be able to set left and right clipping elements for the interior clipping parts + it will be perfect if the elements can be skewed along the slope so I will have a good finished look:

(To top it off I would like to be able to make the whole building walls with one RC style object (ability to set additional clipping splines for the other building sides) =] )

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately this is not currently possible as Clipping is the final operation, after all the nodes have been evaluated. I cannot think of another way to achieve this at present. I considered using a second L1S generator that uses the clipping splines as a path (limiting it using Material IDs to just the angled vertical elements), but I think it will be very difficult to align the end caps correctly.

Many thanks,

Paul

Thanks for the reply Paul.

I had ended up with a nice (kind of) workaround without having to convert to poly and loose the easy editing in RC.
I had realized that for all the places, the ending element is the same geometry, just have to be mirrored around, so I just moved the slopes in the clipping area in
and added the ending geometry using the free Clone modifier, so it ended up pretty nice, light and easy to modify.

I thought I will let you know if it can help somehow for the development of this kind of feature (or maybe someone facing similar problem).

Hi trimitek,

I'd be interested to know more about the process, please...
Often need similar style for wood ceilings, etc.

Best regards,

Hi,
I'm on a tight deadline right now and don't have the time to make some pics, but the process is simple.
It depends on the case, but basically you offset(Outline in max) the segments on the clipping spline where you need to put the ending segments and put them manually in the places they have to be.
You can make another RC object for them to try to automate this or if it's more simple case that only needs cloning you can use the Clone plugin http://www.itoosoft.com/downloads/free_plugins.php (http://www.itoosoft.com/downloads/free_plugins.php)
