Colleague sends me scenes with RC in, but "No Active Generators" when opened ?

I'm collaborating with another freelancer, he works in 3DS Max Design 2015 and I work in both 2014 and 2016.

He sent me a file with a lot of RC presets (like guttering) yet when I open the scene in 2016, all I see are splines and "RC" Icon.  In the modify panel I see "No Active Generators" and in the Editor it is blank / empty.

Please can you advise what we are doing wrong - we need to be able to work seamlessly together, whereby he does the main modelling, using RC when needed and I modify and tweak those if needed.

Currently, even in the scene, those gutters and drainpipes aren't visible (only the splines for their paths are there).
