Title: Crashes at render (Max 22 / Win 10 / RailClone 4.3.2 / Arnold MaxtoA 5.0.0.93)
Post by: tonyinseattle on October 21, 2021, 12:35:50 AM
I recently updated Arnold MaxtoA 5.0.0.93 to Max 2022 and now I crash every time I try to render any railclone object. I'm using the latest version of Windows 10 and the latest version of RailClone.

If you hide the railclone object or disable the generator so there's no geometry, you can render the scene. But as soon as you enable or unhide it and try to render -- crash!

Anyone else experiencing this.

I'm attaching a scene that does not render for me.

Autodesk informed us that plugins must be recompiled to support new Arnold major releases.
We'll provide soon an update for RC5 beta. Until then, you can use only Arnold 4.3.x.

Note: according to our tests, you must uninstall Arnold 5 from the Windows Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->MaxtoA for 3DS Max. Next, install Arnold 4.3 as usual.
If not, it will crash with 4.3 as well.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I noticed that I could not getting ANY railclone object to render after upgrading Arnold.

But I'm still stuck. I have not found a way to downgrade the Arnold version in 3ds Max 2022. When I try to remove it in Control Panel, it appears to work, but then if I try to install and older version of Arnold, it says that Arnold is already installed. Sure enough, when I reboot, the latest version of MaxtoA is back in the Control Panel again. It appears I can't remove it.

Any ideas?

I don't know what may be the problem. We could downgrade sucessfully from MaxToA 5.0.9.93 to 4.3.4.12. Even i did it a couple of times.

Anyway, Autodesk released yesterday a hotfix, which includes changes in the installer:

We are pleased to announce MAXtoA-5.0.1.4 (https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AF3DSUG/5.0.1.4).
This is a hotfix release on top of MAXtoA-5.0.0, providing a lighter installer with functional uninstallation.

Perhaps upgrading to 5.0.1.4, and then uninstalling may do the trick.

If not, i'm afraid you should contact with Autodesk support.
