curves and 2s array problems
« on: August 21, 2021, 01:58:44 PM »
Hello,

I am getting a lot of "errors" or at least not desirable behavior when working with 2s array, a x spline with curves and a y spline with a section that is not a straight line. What I am trying is the same that in the tutorial called "seaside promenade" but with an x spline that has curves on it. Let me ilustrate it with images:

1- When using small curves in the x spline, the pieces get too much streched and there is some kind of strange collision on the geometry. Tryed to give more polygon count to the elements by tesselating them, that did not help

2-For small curves, but in the other "direction" the elements are not sliced and get overlaped. You can see better what is happening in the second image from behind

3-For long curves, I get sometimes overlaping from elements or wrong pading between them

thank you!!

Hi,

First, let me mention, that in this related post you can find several techniques that should help us to avoid these problems. In the modified scene, I've split it into two linear Generators & "center" used Segments to minimize these problematic places. I hope you'll find it helpful.

Best regards,

Thank you for your answer...I already had tried all that is suggested in that post with no good result. What you suggested in the file is way better but not a solution sadly. When you have a floor plan you can not "decide" where and how the curves are...so the y offset is not useful or the use of "Corner Fillet Radius in the Generator"... the combination of two 1s array makes everything better but does not provide a solution to the overlapping geometry.

Will this problem be taken care in future versions? or is more like something "inevitable" to happen?
Thank you

Unfortunately, this is a limitation when bending prebuilt geometry around curves. For example, making splines renderable suffers from the same issues when the width of the geometry exceeds the radius of the curve.
