Grouping "items" for Mtl assignment
« on: April 06, 2019, 09:18:26 AM »
Hi,

I've viewed the blinds tutorial and made my own version of it. I added a full closed curtain, half open curtain and an option without any window cover. I used a script to randomly assign Mtl IDs to my splines and got a result I'm happy with. (Curtains are very, very simple but it's for an exterior shot so that's okay)

I've made a multi material with a RC color map to add some variation. The problem here is that it views every "part" as a separate item, causing situations where the right side of the curtain is color 1 and the left side is color 2. I can think of multiple tedious workarounds, but since RC is capable of so much more than I can even comprehend I figured there must be a way to properly solve this. Preferably within RC, so without exploding it all and assigning different IDs.

The material I made is included so I've added a We-transfer link for the archive.

Hi
In this case I would recommend free plugin MultiTexture
Set up it to Your taste select it to work on material IDs. Then wire that material multiple times to Your multusub material.

Then we need to adjust RC object to generate same Material ID for start and end segments:

Hope this helps

Hi Rokas,

Sorry for the late reply, I was out sick so I couldn't check your solution.

It works great for the curtains but it doesn't seem to work for the blinds (the top array 2S). Is there any reason you can think of why that is?
If you'd like I can send you the updated file but I believe the issue will be the same in both. I did it exactly the same as for the curtains (which worked) but it keeps selecting the same material ID.

Hi.
I am not sure what is wrong in Your setup. I attach You modfied file.
