Title: Distribute splines?
Post by: IT1371 on February 11, 2016, 09:57:39 AM
Is there a way to distribute splines?
I am looking for a way to distribute a lot of splines to be later used as exclusion for another railclone object, and it must stay dynamic for further tweaking.

Anyway to do it with railclone?

Hi,

I'm afraid not, at present RailClone only can generate geometry, and though there are workarounds as mentioned in this post about distributing lights with RailClone (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=2600.0), they wouldn't result in a single spline object that can be used as the Clipping area for a second RC object.

There is however another workaround that might be useful, it's actually possible to use a Surface node as a clipping area. To use this, follow these steps:

- Apply an edit polygon modifier the spline you wish to distribute, add the new geometry to a RailClone object to create your cut out pattern
- Create the second RailClone object and add a Surface node. Go to properties and pick the RC object created in the previous step.
- Wire the Surface node to the Generator's Clipping input.
- Change the clipping settings as normal. RailClone will automatically extract a clipping spline from the geometries open edges.

I've attached a sample file. I hope that helps but please let me know if you have any further questions.

Many thanks!

Paul

Hi Paul,

This is a great workaround, did the trick for me!
Thank you for your help  :)
