We're getting this on a job.  I haven't seen it before.

Anyone know how to sort it?

That's strange. I wonder if an installation was incomplete somewhere along the line. I would try to reinstall the latest version of our plugins, making sure that Max and especially V-Ray Spawner (if you use it) are both closed beforehand.
