Dropped kerb (odd materials and ending on a drop)
« on: August 09, 2014, 04:45:47 AM »
Good morning, I have a quick question on using a dropped kerb in RC. I finished the great tutorial with no problems at all. Then I thought I'd apply it to a site of my own and am now facing two issues which my poor little noggin can't seem to work out!

On a corner of a pavement, I want the kerb to drop on the curve but remain dropped and not return to the high position. However I have 2 issues!

1- The material on the curved part of the paving seems to be incorrect and renders with random texture-less strips.
2 - If I have the mat ID of the last segment of the spline, it kind of works, but I don't actually want the kerb at high level.

However, if I attempt to make the last part of the spline MatID2, it stil tries to push the kerb up (probably because of the associated sequence)

Ignore the clipping thing in the images by the way, when I was writing this post I realised I hadn't associated the clipping spline to the generator governing the dropped kerb!

Okay while writing this post I managed to figure out how to resolve the dropped bit! (Getting the hang of this now I think). However I'm still struggling with the material issue! Any ideas? I'm guessing perhaps it's something to do with the radius/geometry, but I could be wrong!

Hi,

It looks like your material problem is being caused by overlapping edges. If the width of the pavement is larger than the radius of the corner then unfortunately you will get this issue.  If the width is smaller but you are still getting overlapping polygons then increasing the Curve Steps value found in the style rollout may help to smooth the corner.

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks Paul, so given the tight radius basically I can't do much. It's not a biggie, I'll just take it into Photoshop and fix the dodgy mapping. Thanks anyway!
