Title: Edge Treatment when boundary and surface are identical
Post by: cboogie on December 13, 2016, 03:49:14 PM
I've run into this issue quite a bit over the past few days and I'm not quite sure how to sort it out.  I've included one instance in the attached file.  Basically I'm generating a close spline for a given area (in this case a plaza).  The plaza also has some grade change to it so I also generate a surface for it in Max.  I'd like to cover the plaza with a nice travertine paving pattern and for the most part this works really well except at the edges.  Once I add the surface into the mix, the edges of the paving pattern don't seem to know whether to follow the boundary spline or the surface.  How do I sort that out?

second question:  is there a way to use Forest Color in a RC envt?  I created the pattern for the plaza 3 different way; as individual pavers, as one big piece of geometry, and then again in a single forest object.  When I built the forest, I put a forest color map in it that references the clients precedent photo for a tint . . . but I can't get that to work inside of the larger RC?

Hi,

As mentioned in this related post (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=3001.msg11672#msg11672): "That issue occurs when perimeter of the the surface is too close to or coincident with the clipping spline. This is a known limitation, to fix it just enlarge the surface area slightly so that it is bigger than the clipping spline and the problem should disappear."

First let me mention, that RailClone 3 will include a new colour map that will allow you to tint tiles based on a bitmap applied to a surface which could be useful for situations like this.

I would suggest you to check the "Driving material distribution by map (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=4144.0)" thread showing some actual possibilities. Hope you'll find interesting.

Best regards,

thanks for the quick response!  Seems like an easy enough fix for me.

Just curious, is this something that will be resolved in RC3?  If this is fixed PLUS a RC Color Map . . . I'm getting in line for the upgrade now!
