Segment is sometimes OK, sometimes distorted
« on: August 05, 2020, 01:45:23 AM »
Making a museum, have an X and Y spline, and just want to run some random segments around.
Works, except some of the segments are OK, but some get distorted and jacked up.  Mesh has good enough geometry to bend with no problem, so not sure what's going on and why it's inconsistent.
Attaching some pictures and a 3dsMax archive.

Thanks for any suggestions - Chris

Thank You for the scene.
We can confirm that RailClone does have trouble with this shape. Unfortunately we can't promise a fix anytime soon.

Meanwhile we have few workarounds for You.
1.Use path deform modifier.
Create RC object without x spline, just Y. And then use path deform to deform along X axis.

2. Use more regular topology for Your tile mesh:
->

Either torbosmoothed or not.

Also, I want to remind about curve steps parameter. It is essential in this style. Please play with to find optimal deformation.

P.S. You could use pre-turbosmoothed tile and turbosmooth whole RC object.
Feel free to experiment what works best for You.

Attaching a max file with our experiments.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help.
Railclone has a lot of odd bugs, which is frustrating, but I've gotten good help on the forums at least.

Remodeled with good edge loops, increased the Curve Steps to 512, looks good now.
Only small problem remaining is a couple vertical seams seems a little bigger, any idea what's causing that?

Thanks - Chris

Looks pretty clean to me. I don't really notice this vertical seams issue.
Does Curve steps help if You set it to bigger number, i.e 2000, 5000 ?
