Brick Walls with Arches
« on: April 02, 2018, 09:36:18 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm a first time user of RailClone Pro and I love it so far. I've been able to solve most of the issue but I'm stuck with a couple of them. Mainly I'm having some trouble getting the bricks to turn the corners correctly. I'm also having some other problem area that I've circled in the attached image. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, especially because the included macro seems to not be working properly for me,  so any help would be really appreciated.

I've also attached the .max file if you need to take a look at that.

Thanks.

Hi,

You are on right way. I see You already using a lot of parameters and features to get things done.  :)
I wonder why macro was not working for You. I gave it a go and I think it is a good choice this time.
Regarding Arch- I did that in two Linear Arrays.

I hope You find scene attached useful I made green notes with my modifications- not really a lot of them.
With RailClone there is no right way to do most of the designs.

If You have more questions please ask- we are here to help You.

Thanks so much Rokas! I will update the file and I'll make sure to let you know my progress. I'm sure I'll have some more questions.

I've finally been able to circle back to this project and I've really managed to get it most of the way there thanks to your help, but I still have some small issues with corners for only two styles. The macro still doesn't seem to register corners correctly for me, and I'm not sure how to define the corners for the soldiers so they don't overlap.

I have uploaded the file with the problematic styles highlighted. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Rokas! But when I go to the bevel menu it's disabled on both the soldiers and the macro. Is there something else I need to change first?

I'm trying to change the bevel mode to symmetric as you did, but it's disabled for some reason.

On another note I'm also trying to add random material ID's and transformation as the finishing piece of the style, and I'm wondering if there's a way to insert a node in the middle the same way you would in grasshopper? or would I have to rewire everything?

Thanks

Ahh, yes. That is new feature from beta versions.
I would recommend using RailClone beta for You.
It has a lot of great improvements.

I am not familiar with Grasshopper interface but You can rewire in RailClone too:

I'm almost there but I'm still stuck with the corners. The symmetrical bevel works well enough for inside corners but it doesn't really work for outside ones, please see attached image.

I'm having one more issue with randomizing the transformation. Every time I try to plug it in 3ds Max crashes. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong there. I've uploaded the updated file below

Thanks

Hi again.

Thank You for scene file. You have found a bug ;) You copied some nodes within macro which does not play well in master style. Notified developers team. Thank You.
I modified scene to use correct numerical nodes.

Regarding running bond, I analyzed a bit more how this macro should work, and reverted to mostly default settings just added bricks alignment to center. It turned nice on corners then. And there is "Offset Y" parameter to compensate the shift. That it, if You have any more questions, please ask.

Attached scene with all modifications.

I am glad you are using RailClone this heavily and would like to see a final render of this project ;)

Hi Rokas,

Thanks for all you help. These are not the final renderings but we've gone through a round with the client and here are the results below. Let me know if you see anything that railclone could help improving ;)

I think it's a great showcase of the power of railclone. I couldn't have done this project without it probably. So thanks for making it guys!

Apologies for the for the low res images

Nice work.
Great example of RailClone usage for bricks.
I hope You learned quite a few tricks and will use it for many more situations (hint: floor) in Your future projects.
Should You have any questions, please contact us again. Happy to help.
