Fill streets full of cars - materials?
« on: June 27, 2024, 09:36:32 pm »
Hi! I've followed the Fill Streets Full of Cars tutorial and everything works great... up until I hit render. By default, the RC object does not have a material applied, so everything renders in the solid wire color of the RC object. That makes sense. However, we're getting stuck on how to get all of our vehicles to use their own materials. They're from the Chaos Cosmos model library and each model's material is set up a little differently (e.g. some have tires on material ID 5, some are on material ID 8). For this reason, it is not practical to make one master multi/sub-object material that can be applied to all vehicles. The tutorial covered how to use a Railclone Color map to randomize the car paint, but it only showed one material being used and did not mention dealing with multiple source materials.

Is there any way to get models from a model library to use their own materials without needing to modify the models?

Thanks!

Hi Scott,

There's an easy fix: enabling the General > Use Segment Material feature will automatically manage all these materials.

I hope that helps.

Best regards,
