Title: Fixed size scale issue
Post by: antmarch on January 27, 2016, 03:41:47 PM

Hi guys,
I'm looking to make a simple brei solei type structure, with the panels at differing widths per spline section, using fixed size.  My original segment was 1.5m wide.  After aligning and rotating the segment, I typed in the necessary fixed width and whooah, it seems the scale is way off in Y.  X and Z look fine if I adjust them though?

Wondering if it's because the pivot is at the X minimum, or the fact it's been rotated?  Either it doesn't seem right?

I've attached the file.

Hi,

Does resetting the Xform for the source geometry help? It looks like you forgot to attach your file, if you can attach it I'll take a closer look.

Thanks!

Paul

Tend not to reset Xform that often as I work to grids it just messes up my pivots. Unless of course it's been through a lot.   Having just tested this though, I can confirm that resetting the Xform doesn't work.

can't attach this file for some reason, less than 3 mb, have you an email?
cheers

Hi,

If you can email the scene to support@itoosoft.com, that'd be great.

Thanks!

Paul.

Missed your reply yesterday but have emailed you the file this morning.

On the subject of fixed size segments, can I ask you a question on how to approach the problem in the image below.

I've rotated a vertical post to become a raked spar on a roof atrium, to fit I adjusted the fixed size, but this seems locked to the world, or the RC co-ords.  Tried scale too, and the Y axis but same thing.  Is there any way in Railclone to adjust the segment value locally, or should I adjust the segment itself to fit.

Hi!

That can be achieved by carrying out the scale and rotate operations on separate nodes - first scale, then the rotate.

I hope that helps.

Cool, I like it!!

any fix on the opening post?

Hi,

It is a similar issue. If you rotate the object in a node before the Fixed size operation it should work correctly. For example rotate the node by 90 using the controls found in the Segment node and then use the Transform node to set the size using the Fixed size parameter.

I hope that helps.

Many thanks,

OK, I got it.
 Thanks.
