Tribune seats
« on: July 04, 2022, 12:59:00 PM »
Hey,
Your help please.
Planning a Tribune in a sports hall.
The chairs run on a line in a simple generator.
Now I want to generate spaces every few meters in order to produce corridors for stair-climbing. By clipping the spline area.

I can not arrange the chairs very straight, according to the clipping.
I would also like each seat to be exactly after the seat in front of it and not change from line to line.

What are the possible ways to solve?
I attached a file.
Thank you :D

Hi,

The issue with using Clipping splines in this instance is that they don't affect the actual spacing and distribution, they can only remove objects that have already been distributed using the full length of the splines.

In the attached file I've resolved this in a different way, using 3ds Max's recently introduced Shape Boolean object to add the gaps directly to the base spline. Unfortunately Shape Boolean flattens the spline, but you can add a surface to the RailClone object and select the stadium model to reintroduce the stepping.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further questions,

Paul

Hi - sure thing, here's a 2020 version. The only issue is that I think the Shape Boolean object was added in 2021 so I've had to collapse it to an editable spline. Not a problem but you'll lose some of the parametric control.

Cheers,

Thanks ,
It looks great ,
But why is the Z-pivot of the seat different in the left stand from the stand opposite it.
The chairs are not in the same Z on the grandstand.
Even in the lowest first row.
Thanks

It looks as though its related to the surface. On one side it thinks the spline should be projected onto the level above, and on the other below. Probably because the splines were extracted from the step part of the model. You can fix it quite easily by entering a small negative Generator > Y Offset value.

I hope that helps,

Paul
