Gradient pattern with size variation
« on: October 04, 2019, 03:03:00 PM »
Hi guys,
Is there any way to ranodmize sizes and still have a gradient effect?
I have attached an example of what I am trying to achieve and also screenshot of what I have so far (using railclone tutorials). By the way, is there some method to make more than 2 materials in the gradient effect?

Or is it simpler to do this in Forest Pack?

Thank you!

Please attach Your starting max file so we can check it closely.

Hi Rokas,
I have attached the file, and I also I tried to add randomizer and it did almost what I was looking for, but it is still hard to make the shapes fit inside the mesh and not overlap..

Hi

I am not sure why are You using hexagonal padding macro, name Your segments as hexes, they are not in Your scene.
Hex is this form:

My advice would be to use the same one generator for mesh and fill segments. Combine them and adjust further for Your liking:

Scene attached with 3 color gradient for deeper investigation.

Hope it helps

Wow! This is so amazing! Thanks for your help Rokas!

I have just one quick question regarding your setup, I am confused why did you use Conditional (Y Counter).

This is really impressive, I have to learn more advanced methods!

Glad to help.
This conditional shifts every other line by 50% of segment size so they all nicely fit together.

Sorry to come back to this topic again, but is there a way to change scale of the entire railclone?  For some reason the segments break up when I try to do global scale.  I also tried to scale each segment individually, but get strange results.

And one more question, this is probably too complicated...I think i will just try FFD modifier on top of railclone.  Is it possible have uneven shape, scaled vertically, like the second image attached?  So that the whole railclone system is not even, but rather squeezed?

Thanks!

I have modified version so it has X and Y scale parameters. This way You can adjust scale and make it "squeezed".

Hope that is what You need.
