Title: FS - Material Operator - Randomize by element
Post by: IJ2087 on March 28, 2018, 06:12:00 PM
Hello,

I have come across a situation where it would be handy to have the Material Operator act on elements of a segment rather than the entire material ID of the segment. For example, if you are creating a highrise building made up of segments with multiple panes of glass in a curtain wall, and you want to randomize the material of each pane of glass, there is no way to do so. Currently, the Material Operator would change the glass ID to one of the random values, but for the entire segment. Only way around this is to add and edit poly on top of the RailClone and select the glass ID's, and then add a 3DS Max "MaterialByElement" modifier on top of that to handle the randomization. Is this even possible to add to the RailClone plugin?

Also, it would be nice to be able to write in a list of ID's to change to, rather than a range. Sometimes the MultiMaterial has non sequential materials that I want to randomize to, but this requires careful planning of the MultiMaterial.

seems like "RailClone Color" map is perfect for a job:

Ah yes...I come from Old School RailClone days and have yet to try this yet. I will give it a go. Thanks for the suggestion!
