Railclone between two splines
« on: February 09, 2021, 07:40:07 PM »
Hello. I'm trying to create a stair railing with a variable height.

What I've tried to do is subtract the X.SplineCoords.z of the two splines to get the different height but that doesn't seem to work as I thought it would. Clipping splines are undesirable and don't work due to the stairs turning anyway. Is there a way to create the railclone object *between* two splines?

Thanks,

Marwan

Hi Marwan, unfortunately, only if You create 3rd spline between them.

Hi Rokas,

I'm not sure what you mean. Could you look at the attached file and let me know what you mean by a 3rd spline?

Thanks,

Marwan

You can add CrossSection modifier to create a new spline in between those two:

I just added few more vertices:

Thanks Rokas. I don't understand how that helps with the railclone style. Could you please show me how that works in the railclone style itself?

I have no idea what are You building. It was not a solution to Your style, just a tip, how to make RC work between the splines.
I understand it might not work for what You have in mind.
It might for some styles though, such as this.

With the cross-section option, you create a new spline to be used as Base Spline. Now you should reorganize your RC object to use vertical spline segments (for poles) + horizontal with your original splines (for railings).
