Title: Geometries along a twisted spline
Post by: Totek on March 01, 2022, 08:55:02 AM
Hello I'am fairly new to railclone and coming here for help :)

I'm currently working on a personal project inspired by the Kistefos  museum in norway.
I've linked a reference picture for the effect i'm trying to achieve.

After some failed tests with displacement maps I turned to railclone and tried to use a clading preset with a spline along the curvature of my geometry but with no success.
I must admit that despite all the excellent tutorials i don't see where to start to achieve such a result.

Hi Totek,

Thanks for the interesting question. I've made a quick attempt at this building and it certainly isn't simple! I've attached my file, but please be aware that it uses several advanced features, including:

- RCSpline > Markers to set window sizes on the nested generator, and where to place the ramped windows and the end result
- RCSpline > Banking to create the twist.
- Nested Generators to create rectangular sections that are then distributed along a linear spline
- Expressions to create the incrementing window heights.

It's parametric so you would be able to adjust window sizes, paths, twist etc. On the other hand, the style is quite complex, especially if you're new to RailClone, and you might find it easier to model this one manually.

The sample file is attached, please let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Paul, this is simply awesome I've got everything I need to experiment and try to understand the logic,
Thank you so much!
