Stadium with different seat colours
« on: August 03, 2016, 07:41:42 PM »
Hi All. Only just started using railclone. 3dsmax is my software using vray to render.

Putting seats along splines in a stadium. I have club 'letters' and a 'logo' in the middle of seating areas. Where there is the logo and letters I want one colour seating and the rest of the stadium seats in a 2nd colour. I thought the best thing to do was to break the splines to have one set of splines for seat colour 1 and a second set of splines for seat colour 2. Problem is, when put on rail clone seats on each spline some seats overlap.

To be clear there are two splines (of many lines each of course) in the scene, seat colour 1 and seat colour 2. All the splines 'start vertexes' start at the same end (in this instance the right as we look at the image). So I know both railclone objects should behave the same on each spline set.

Am I doing it the correct way? Can't seam to stop some seats in 1st colour overlapping some 2nd colour seats. Perhaps everything should just be one spline? But then how to I isolate the seats I want to be the club logo and club letters?

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us. I suspect that is caused by the fact that Slice is turned off for the Segments? This will result in chairs at the end of the spline extending beyond the last vertex.

Obviously we don't want to slice the chairs but instead we can subtly scale them so that they fit exactly into a spline. To do this, select the Generator and change the Rules > Default Mode to Adaptive.

Another option instead of splitting the spline is to assign spline IDs that drive the colour. You can read more about that technique in this post: http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=3062.msg11794#msg11794

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.

kind regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul.

Thank you for you response. I will try this. I can't now work on this project for a couple of days, as the client wants me to finish something else, but when I get back onto this I will try. I think I like the soun of the ID's more as I can keep the two lines connected and chair spacing might be solved at the same time.
