Title: Glass Handrail 1 Library Issues
Post by: JI2785 on November 18, 2013, 05:34:57 PM
I have a problem with the Glass Handrail 1 in the default Railclone library. The Glass supports distort on corners and shift on the panels.

This happens also on a new install as well as an update.

On a separate issue or maybe one related I get a "3ds Max application has stopped working" Message after a 3ds max scene that has closed with a railclone element in it.

I am running 3ds Max Design 2014 SP3 with the subscription extension.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this issue. I've just had a quick look at that style and I can reproduce the problem here. It can be resolved by changing the X Alignment of the two glass bracket segment's to Automatic. I've attached a screenshot to try to illustrate. We'll fix it for the next release.

Someone from support should be in touch about the crashing problem.

Hope that helps,

Thanks,

Paul

Regarding the crashing issue, we'll check it. If you can send us the minidump (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=1484.0) file, it will be helpful to isolate the problem.

Thanks.

Thx for the reply.

The crash doesn't bring up a autodesk form just a standard windows message. We currently have multiple computers crashing on exit of 3ds max with Railclone on our renderfarm slaves. It only happens on computers with the railclone plugin. The renders do complete but max crashes on exit with the message so it isn't a massive deal.

I have a further question about this railing type. I have followed the instructions above and have fixed the standard problem with the fixtures being misaligned (surely this could be addressed with a quick update to the software so that people who have bought the software since christmas get a fixed version!), but I still have another problem with the same part. It doesn't see to follow the railing and the piece of glass! I've attached a screenshot of the area affected.

I hope this is a simple fix also  :)

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Thanks for reporting this issue, I'm sorry for the trouble it is causing you. This behaviour is a limitation of the way in which this style has been created, the glass in the default slot stretches from one post to the next, whereas the glass brackets rotate to follow the direction of the spline at their location. This little diagram shows the problem:

To get the bracket to align correctly the bracket would need to point at the other post and there is not currently a function to be able to do this. I'm going to try to recreate the style in a different way to resolve the problem.

The problem you original reported should have been resolved in the current beta. If you have the new beta version and the problem persists please let me know and I'll investigate.

Many thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the quick response. One thought would be to make the brackets be able to orientate to the glass object. I am not sure how you'd resolve this at corners, but if there is a different corner scenario, perhaps that could work in the current way? A different way of orientating the brackets for continuous path scenarios, and another way for corner scenarios.

Thanks for looking at this.

Cheers.

p.s. where can I get the beta version?

Hi Bill,

you can download the beta version from your user panel, it's the second option from the menu  on the left.

Thanks,

PAul
