UVW Xform parameters
« on: January 25, 2018, 03:00:43 AM »
When using UVW Xform parameters (offset/rotation/tiling), you use negative values for the parameters  (for examples, find the tutorial in railclone "Next steps” manual {version 6 page 101}: UVW XForm Operator> Randomising existing UVWs). My understanding is that UV space starts from zero to one and anything outside that will not be rendered. Is it because you use multi tile UV mapping for UVW Xform?
I would like to understand how negative values is used in "UVW Xform" parameters in  railclone?

Hi,

The UVW Form > Offset is "shifting" UVW coordinates in corresponding direction (+ / -) by the defined value. For values out of the <0, 1> range, "tiling" is applied.

Let me add, that as mentioned in the corresponding chapet of the "Next Steps with RailClone" guide: "The spinners in the UVW XForm operator use scene units. If you're using real world map sizes this makes sense and behaves as you'd expect, but if you're using standard mapping, it's not necessarily obvious what measurements correspond to 0 - 1 in UVW space. The answer is that 0 - 1 UVW space corresponds to 0 -1 system units. To find out what your system units are, go to Customise > Units Setup and click on System Unit Setup."

Best regards,
