Hi,
I want to make a few libraries of roofs for myself and I was going to start with this one (See image 4 attached). However I'm struggling to do so.
I'm using the roofs macro to achieve this but there's a gap in between each segment (See image Attempt_1). This attempt I might have done incorrectly as i didn't use individual parts.
So for my 2nd Attempt I just selected a single piece and worked with that see image (See image Attempt_2)
Any help on this would be great. I'm going to attach the MAX file too just in case.

So still tewaking stuff and looked at the example file iToo supply for roofs in thier tutorial which gave me some insight.
Current progress...
Got the slope and parts but when I add the verges everything jumps in the z position causes gaps. See image attached.

More progess...but still not right.
Linked up to date max file

I think I've got it now.
The thickness modify in the roofs macro needed to be adjusted to get it right.

I was just about to take a look at this question - glad to see you've solved it already. If you have any further questions, let me know.
Best,

Thanks for the reply Paul,
I guess yeah probelem solved. But just one question. Would you alway recommend building your verges with some of the slate attached like it is in your Itoo roof example see image attached. Or would they ever be stand alone? I ask because of the images I've attached where the verge's are very much their own piece and a tad bit complex.
Curious how you would go about creating the example images I've attached.
Thanks,
Keith.

I think in the case of your example I would build the verges separately as they are in real life. I think we did the same for the clay tiles, as I understand they are a tile with a verge attached (as shown below). Where possible I like to match the real-world construction if it's possible and convenient.

Ah I see. That makes a lot of sense. I'll keep that in mind when creating future Railclone objects.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Paul,
So had time to try the above example but running into issues.
- Can't get verges to overlap
- Since there are two verges in this roof example they seem to be competing with each other.
Where can I fix this?
-
Just realised that the tile length has to equal the tile verge...makes sense.
-
Yes - either the same length or you can use top or bottom padding if you need some geometry to overlap to close up gaps.
Best,
Paul
