Title: Help with cladding`
Post by: LC3D on March 26, 2025, 04:24:13 am
Hey all,

I'm having issues with using railclone for cladding...

Firstly, I'd like the boards to align on the z axis... currently, they seem to start from a different position such that the boards that are perpendicular aren't aligning... see image attached.
Also, I'd love to be able to mitre the corners if possible...?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi,

The reason for that is the 'Extend X/Y Size to Area' feature, which aligns the array with each 'subspline'. In this case, since it also allows you to miter corners, using splines for each row linked to the Linear 1S1 gives you better results. I've attached a modified version of your scene. I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your reply, I've downloaded the file but its been created in a new version of max, is there any chance you could please save it in max 24 for me?

Many thanks.

Of course. Please find attached the scene resaved in the 3ds Max 2024 format. I hope this helps.

Thanks for that mate, much appreciated.

Is there any way of doing it without requiring such a complicated spline? Similar to my initial scene spline? even if we don't mitre the corners, but just get the boards to line up?

You're welcome. Unfortunately, since these subsplines aren't aligned, there isn't an easy fix. Another option would be to disable the Extend X/Y Size to Area feature in your style setup and apply the clipping operation separately. However, this approach would require multiple generators to handle all the areas. If you'd like to give it a try:
I hope this helps.

Hey Michael,

Thanks for your help! Much appreciated.
The last suggestion is probably beyond my level of understanding of RC... Do you think that they might find a simpler solution for future releases of RC?

Personally, I use it a lot for cladding and to be able to easily mitre the corners and line up the planks would be a great help.

Thanks mate.
