VRayEdgesTex
« on: August 25, 2014, 05:12:58 PM »
Haven`t found anywhere and discovered the hard way- seems like RailClone does not support VRayEdgesTex map in bump slot:

Thanks for reporting the problem. Probably we are missing something in our VRay implemtentation, we'll investigate it.

Hello, I´ve noticed the same problem with the latest version (2.5) of Railclone and Vray 3.2. We are often using VrayEdgesTex and it would be great if this feature could be implemented in Railclone. Thanks in advance!

Hi, we have been checking this problem and is a limitation of V-Ray. On Chaos Group forum Vlado writes:

"It will not work on proxies for now; this is because when used as a bump map, VRayEdgesTex needs information for the entire mesh - obviously this is not possible with a proxy."

RailClone uses the instancing engine used by V-Ray proxies, so these limitations are shared as well.
The workaround is turn off Display->Use Instancing engine. But doing this, RailClone will generate an unique mesh with the geometry, which may be huge depending of the model. So, be care with it.

wouldn't this issue be solved then with vray 3.20.03,
where you can choose to display the original mesh in the proxy ?

We can display the mesh from RailClone or modify it, but once injected in V-Ray we have no control over the render engine.
I don't know the V-Ray internals, but i guess that all render instances are handled in the same way than proxies (with their limitations).
