Title: How to customize a predefined style ?
Post by: KH4532 on December 11, 2014, 05:02:25 PM
Hi,

I'm totally new to RailClone and I wondered how to change the spacing between the small posts and also between the bigger ones in this balustrade style from the library:

Also is it possible to edit the posts themselves from a library style, for example change the shape a little bit ?

I think it'll be easier for me to figure out later how to make a style from scratch if I start out by editing a predefined one first. I know there are some pretty in-depth videos but for now I'll get my feet wet with just figuring out how to change the spacing between the various elements.

 :)

If you want to make the space between the bars smaller you can lower the left padding on the "Handrail_rail1" Segment. If you want it wider, you need to adjust the model (otherwise gaps arise). Or you can scale the "Fixed size X" if you don't mind wider bars.
Crank up the evenly distance for the pillar distance:

Hi,

Starting with RailClone by deconstructing the built in examples is a very good way to learn the plugin. In this style the spacing for the small posts and the large ones is handled differently. For the large posts the spacing is determined by a parameter in the style. To edit it, try the following:

The spacing between the small posts if created by the geometry itself. The post and the handrail are one segment and the spacing is determined by the larger size of the handrail.

To edit the geometry of an embedded segment you first need extract if from RailClone and back into the scene, to do this:

This process would be the same if you want to edit the post geometry too.

I hope that helps and we hope you enjoy using RailClone. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Many thanks,

Paul

Thank you satoer, and thank you very much, Paul,  for the very clear and prompt explanations, and for taking the time to make gifs, too! That is the best explanation I've ever had ! It's shown me instantly how easy and awesome to use Rail Clone is. Just minutes before I was starting to fear I'd sunk 300€ into something I might end up not using at all because it was too complicated for me. So relieved, my faith is restored ! ;D

When I convert to editable poly, it stops working. How can I work from a post/rail that is an editable poly instead ?  :D

Hi there,

Glad I could help out  :D  If you collapse the mesh at some point or convert to an editable poly the reference it lost. If that happens just open up the style editor and click  (http://lonelymonk.com/forum_images/65c76b04af85424e872a7e707036c7c0.jpg) (Reload Segments) and you're back in business!

Cheers,

Paul
