Title: how to make everything fit together in this chainlink fence
Post by: lukx on February 23, 2021, 10:11:48 PM
I'm tryin to create this kind of chain link fence I made all the parts but having problems how to make it all fit nicely together. I would like to avoid using transform as it's hard to fit it perfectly.

I made few modeling mistakes this one works better but still bottom and left part is mismatched in Raiclone.

Hi,

As far as I can see there are still some issues with the source models. They don't quite jigsaw together and align correctly and the bottom as you can see in the image.

I've played with the geometry a little to get it to work, but it might need a tidy up! Aside from I've made a couple of other changes as follows:

- Move the pivots for the frame to the Inside on the X and Y axis and updated pivot settings. Now Top/Bottom uses Y pivot, Start/End uses Z Pivot, and Corners use X and Y Pivot. All segments use Z pivot. This will save on having to resize one generator to fit inside/outside another.
- Sliced the wire segments slightly differently to make them easier to line up on the X axis.
- Changed/removed several padding and translation settings.
- Shared same X/Y spline between both generators

I hope it helps, please let me know if you have any questions.

Paul

Thank you Paul. I fixed the geometry (it nicely matches everything when copied into frame) Just not sure how to adjuts RC to fix chain links top, bottom, sides with the frame.

Hi,
Please check out the attached file. Note again that I have sliced the geometry slightly differently from you. For X axis RailClone's adaptive mode takes care of things. Unfortunately there is no Y Adaptive mode so I've made a macro to create a similar effect. This is my old geometry I'm afraid, but hopefully it helps.

once again I cut objects as you did and now it's almost good just tiny slide here at the top and bottom.

You should be able to fix that by adjusting a few padding values here and there. Here's a revised version of that file. I've added the vertical adaptive mode to it as well.

Cheers,

Paul

Fantastic, works awesome. Please don't hesitate to add it to fences library in future RC versions if you want, at least I can do :)
