How to make Railclone even better! My wishlist
« on: July 20, 2013, 07:27:44 AM »
So I've been using Railclone for the last couple of days and am enjoying using it so far however I have a couple of wishes:

- Control Extents of 2D array generator and other parameters using spline. This would be great for road alignments and wdiths and it is effectively how it is done in more sophisticated Civil Design packages.
- 3D Array
- Ability to update library Railclone objects geometry without resetting the style. So a button for 'update geometry as per source file', and maybe with a checkbox for 'reset style as per source file?'
- Extend the functionality of the Linear 1S generator to include option: 'at specific chainage' where you specify the distance(s). Again - great for adding objects in a similar manner to Civil design using an alignment where you could read from a set of drawings rather than interrogating the CAD file.

Hi, thanks for using our software and for your suggestions.

Ok.

Sorry, i don't understand. Do you want reload the Segments from the library but without modifying the style ?

Ok. As similar feature was already in the wishlist.

Yes - so if I decide to change the original geometry, material Ids, or anything like that mid project then I can update my RC object. I think it would be best if this is not automatic.

Once you modify a style in the scene, it's not linked anymore with the library. To reload it, you must open the Library Browser and select it again. But the Base Objects and Parameters are preserved.

It's not possible to reload a style partially (i.e. only the Segments), because we don't know what part of the style has been modified. Perhaps some Segments has been added, deleted, renamed or whatever operation.

Ok fair enough.

How hard would it be to implement a feature where you could add a 'batter' component, where you specify the slope angle of the surface x(?) axis and a target surface and have railclone project the surface until it hits the target surface? So the y length would depend on when it hits the target surface.

And you would most likely specify increments along your spline so it searched every 10 metres for example.

This is a basic function in Civil design packages.

Another feature would be an ability to add dummy objects to RC - which you can later link objects to.  A benefit over using this rather than adding a path constriant to the dummy is it will follow the curve radius set in itoo. If you could set the distance of each dummy it may be an interim solution to permit adding groups to railclone - not automated though.

We are evaluating now this feature. It's not sure if we'll use a surface, one additional spline (which may be "glued" to the surface) or other method. But we like to provide a solution for these cases.

Yes, it's a priority for us to provide support to non-geometric objects (lights and so). Unfortunately there is not a quick mode to implement it, so it may take some time.
