Title: Is this something I should even consider
Post by: TL1895 on May 27, 2015, 06:31:02 PM
creating with Railclone?

My initial response is no way, but I've been surprised by the support here many times, so here goes...

Fabric canopies, exactly as pictured...
Thank you,

Hi!

Thanks for the interesting question. This may be possible with RailClone depending on the shape of the canopy. As long as the geometry could be "projected" along the RC object's Z axis onto a surface that represents the shape of the canopy you may be able to do it. If the angle is too steep or folds back on itself then it wouldn't be possible.

To do this you can use the Surfaces feature, you can find more information about this here  (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/RAILCLONE/Surface+Base+Objects)and please feel free to check out the attached sample file.

If you have any questions please let me know. I hope that helps.

Many thanks,

Paul

Wow, I am shocked!  Thank you so much for such rapid and successful support!
I'll have a look at the example you posted now.

Thanks again,

Hi Paul,

Actually, I am a bit embarrassed to say I cannot figure out how you made the surface from the spline?
Did you use the "surface" modifier on the spline?

Thanks again,

Hi,

Actually I made the spline from the surface in this case by selecting the boundary and using the Create Shape command. The surface was made using a very low poly model (one edge for each peak/trough) with a Opensubdiv modifier (or turbosmooth)  to create the curves.
