Itoo Roof and Octane
« on: October 25, 2017, 07:31:12 PM »
Hey everyone,

I just updated RC to the newest version and am testing the roof features now. I like them a lot so far but I already have a question:

As I am working with Octane Render, I have to use the RC Tools to instanciate my RC objects, so that they are properly recognized as instances by Octane. I did the same thing with the rooftiles I created and noticed that instead of creating single objects/instances it's only creating one big mesh (which ofc has the same size as the original RC objects). That's a problem, because like this, the roof objects grow too big very fast. Did I do something wrong or why isn't the instancing feature creating instances?  :-\

Thank you in advance for your answer!  :)
Greetings,
Betty

Hi Betty,

this is due to some revisions in the way that RailClone tools works. The changes were made to allow us to respect material ID and UVW XForm randomisation, but they do cause objects that use these features to be collapsed to a single mesh. To prevent this you'll need to open the style and remove or disable the UVW Xform and Material nodes.

We're looking into adding more options to RailClone tools so that you can choose to ignore those nodes and restore full instancing.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.

Many Thanks,

Paul

Hey,

just wanted to ask if there were changes made to the instancing problem with Octane in the newest version. Is it possible to instance roof tiles now?

Greetings,
Betty

Hi Betty,

RailClone 3.1 introduced a force instances option which generates as many instances as possible, but ignores Material and UVW operators. It's basically the behaviour of RC Tools previous to v3.0.9.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.

All the best,

Paul
