Log house RC 5.2.8 Corona 9
« on: April 14, 2023, 11:29:40 am »
Hi, I need little help.
 1) I'm trying to built a log house using timber(soon with cylindrical logs if everything works) with railclone 5.2.8 and Corona 9 and I have a problem. Everything is Ok, but the mapping on a sliced surfaces is missing, I thought it should be there automatically. I've tried Box mapping etc but nothing works. Is there the limitation of railclone or is there some workaround?

2)While I'm here I'll ask. Is there a way to limit the distance of clipping area? Imagine an ark house and there a clipping area for the door and it's cutting right through the hole thing, but I need that only for one side. I'll attach it later if needed.

Thanks!

If there is some kind a solution for this kind of work, would be nice to see, but for the time being I found some kind of workaround, it's not fast method, but faster than I did before. But I need to know, is it possible to apply particular id for the capped parts?

Hi,

Well, the Apply Box Mapping feature should handle these situations, but as we can see, something has changed recently - we'll continue analyzing this issue - it'll need to be investigated more in deep by our main developers. Thanks for your feedback, it's very important to us.

Best regards,

Hi,

I'm checking this, but unfortunately we cannot fix it.

Clipping area and capping is done using 3DS Max booleans, which doesn't compute texture coordinates for the cap faces.
Also we cannot reapply UVW mapping to the segment after clipping, because that modifies all faces, not only the cap.

The only way is to select the cap faces, and apply the mapping to them.
But we cannot do this automatically in RailClone, because there is not any mechanism to differentiate cap faces from the others.

This is sad, because it's kinda railclone job.  :'(
My method is to generate walls with railclone, convert to edit poly, assign ID's, then detach all elements(scripts), then  apply UVW map using pivot points, then attach them if necessary, so it's waste of time.
It wouldn't a problem if railclone could apply RWC mapping to each element and correct ID and without shifting the map on each element, because I can adjust texture accordingly.
Unfortunately I couldn't find workaround with Corona renderer functionality.

Finally we could find a workaround, using some tricks with the boolean process.
You can find it at RC 6.0.4 beta.

- Added Generator->Cap->Mat.ID: defines Material ID for capping faces.
- Capping faces generated from clipping areas are mapped using parameters from 'Default Segment'->Deform->'Apply Box Mapping'.
   * Mapping parameters are taken directly from the Default Segment, and are not affected by "UVW XForm" operators.

Mapping of cap faces may be not aligned with the main geometry, but they are mapped correctly, using the values of "Default Segment"->Mapping (this option must be enabled).
We also added a parameter to define the material ID, in case you want to handle them separately.

I hope that helps.

Thanks! When I'll find a way to pay for the maintenance plan I will update and possibly job will get easier.

Are you saying that the map alignment could differentiate from element to element? That's, partially, the whole point :)

By the way I tried I little more detailed Log(wood) with "rails" for connection if you understand me and it's messy. I understand that boolean is not perfect, but that thing should be more advanced in terms of quality, no rushing.
