LS1 ignores base and clipping spline sometimes
« on: May 05, 2015, 08:03:52 PM »
Nothing complex, just an LS1 generator with 2 segments, following a spline...well, sort of.
I am sure it's some simple setting I cannot find, but if anyone knows, please post...

Everything works okay, but the geometry goes beyond the endpoints of the spline path.
Why, and how can this be avoided without using "slice" setting in segments?

Thanks a lot,
TL1895

edit:  cannot use clipping or splice in this case, because the ends are going to be visible.
edit:  added example max2014 scene, this one shows same problem, if you try to use clipping plane.

Hi,

This issue arises when using randomised segments of different sizes coupled with adaptive mode. In Adaptive mode, RailClone expects the segments to be of an equal length on the X axis to correctly calculate and scale their sizes to fit within the spline. Unfortunately there is no easy fix except to cheat. Instead of using completely different sized segments establish the size of your largest cap stone and then divide it into equal portions.

Use this measure to create smaller stones

Next use compose operators in RailClone to combine these stones so the total length on the x axis of each group is always the same.

As long as each composed collection of segments is the same length, you should find they fit neatly within the spline's boundaries.

Please see the attached file for this example.

I hope that helps.

Many thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Boy was that fast!

So, thanks again, that makes sense now that I see it neatly lain out and explained.
I'm going to try it now :)

Best wishes,

Okay, so I still am wondering about one thing;

In the real job, there will never be any cap pieces that are small.  Can your method still work without using the sliver/tiny piece?

Thanks again,

Hi,

It shouldn't matter what size each stone is as long as the sum of the lengths of the segments added to a single Compose operator is exactly the same. Problems will arise when you have compose operators with segments that add up to different values. In the attached style for example I've removed the smaller stone but added a half length one instead. In order for this new addition to work, two must be used attached to a compose operator so that the total length is equal to the large stone.

I hope that helps.

Many thanks,

Paul

Thanks Paul,

I had tried this but got stuck somewhere.
I'll taker a look at your new example scene, to see where I went wrong.
The example scenes you post in these forums are so incredibly helpful in learning RC, IMO.

Thanks again!
