Title: Mapping Tiles & Bricks Tutorial question re irregular tile size
Post by: Terri Brown on November 08, 2017, 11:19:43 AM
Hi guys,

So I've watched your mapping tiles & bricks tutorial...and am wishing I'd practiced my maths more since school. My brain hurts.

Anyway, I get the concept and will follow the tut closely, but I want to know if it's still feasible with a wooden shingle pattern like the attached, where not only are tiles offset, but they randomly vary in U width? Seems like too many variables to me?

Thanks

Hi,

In RC3, there are two Macros (https://docs.itoosoft.com/railclone/style-editor/macros) (Extract Tiles - Running Bond & Extract Tiles - Stack Bond) bundled and there's no more need to build a complex style. In case, you''ll find a regular pattern, these will be handy. Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Thanks Michal.

So you're confirming the pattern has to be regular, right? And that the one above as it stands won't work?

Hi Terri,

I'm afraid that tutorial uses UVW offsets to grab the brick textures so it won't work well with irregular patterns.

Thanks,

Paul
