multiple libraries assets to the same railclone object
« on: January 08, 2015, 11:50:40 AM »
Is there a way to add multiple libraries assets to the same railclone object? for example

In a road scenario  in the library we have the street lights and  central barriers and side barriers models all off one spline. it would be good to be able to access the library from the style editor.
Thanks

Hi Barry,

I'm afraid at present this isn't possible, however as a workaround you can combine 2 or more styles by using the copy/paste features found in the style editor to merge the nodes from multiple railclone objects into a single master style. The procedure would be as follows:

  • Create a new RC object and load the road style from the library
  • Create a second RC object and load a central barrier from the library.
  • With the Barrier RC object still selected, open the Style editor and select all the nodes. Click to copy.
  • Reselect the Road RC Object and open the Style Editor. Click to paste the barrier nodes into this style.
  • Attach a single spline node to all generators to ensure they are driven by the same base object/
  • Repeat for as many RC objects as you need to combine.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have further questions.

Many thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks, had a go with this and it works fine, although is there a way of preserving the materials from one RC object to the next.? I`ve got a feeling the answer is no but thought i`d check.

Thanks Paul

Hi,

No I'm afraid not. In this case you would need to manually create the materials and re-assign IDs. If it helps, I often use the "Multi Material from Selection" script included in Rappatools to quickly create msub materials from the segments. Alternatively a manual procedure to create multi-sub objects from segments is as follows:

1. Attach all bridge section into a single mesh. Use the default options, so Max creates the multi-sub object.
2. Detach each element in separate objects.
3. Re-adjust the pivots if necessary.

I hope that helps.

Many thanks,

Paul
