Symetrical corners with asymetrical segment
« on: January 09, 2022, 07:37:20 PM »
Can anyone tell me how to get a mirrored segment around a corner?

The help docs seem to suggest that symetric mode on bevel corners should do this (though don't explicitly show the effect on an asymetric segment). At the moment I see no diffence between extend, reset and bevel mode.

I guess you want to have two or more segments to act as symmetric?
Try to create a Compose Operator (Sequence mode) and connect Large, Small, Large segments and connect this to Corner.
Set Rules>Bevel mode>Reset or Symmetric.
But it will depend on a composed sequence, sometimes you will have to add a Null segment, turn of the bend, etc..

Thanks! The lightbulb just came on and I figured that out. Compose segment 1, segment 2, segment 1 mirrored (although the mirroring isn't obvious right now, it will be)

I'm modiffying that one you looked at for me before to make tower blocks of height based on the spline ID. The corners will always be balconies, with the rest one of three segment types, including balconies, arranged in rows using that nested generator method you showed me.

Do you know of a way I can ensure those composed coner segments always get the same map from a Railclone color map? The interior lights will be self illuminating textures via a Railclone colour, but it would be good if both side of the corner look cohesive - i.e. get assigned the same map. You can see below that's not currently the case.

Also is the something like an auto-tidy for the graph like in Max's SME? My graph is a mess!

I don`t think you can target a certain color in RC Color Map. (except 100% Tint from Surface Map)
So, you will have to do with multiple MultiSub Objects material. Again, it will all depend on the Style and MatID of your segments. You could make some logical arithmetic expressions based on some counter.

Hi - you can control the randomisation that a segment gets from the RailClone colour map by overriding its colour seed value in the Transform node. Segments with the same seed value should all get the random values assigned.

But, as I understand,  he needs 3 or more Composed segments on the corner heaving the same color from the RC Color map.
I don`t have 3ds max right now so can`t test.
As I recall when some extreme value is entered in the Color seed will harmonize random colors.
EDIT:
YES! This could work!
